I’ve owned this domain for a while. For most of that time it has pointed at nothing, and then for a little while it pointed at a starter template with lorem ipsum on the about page. This is the first attempt to point it at something I actually mean.

I write software for a living. That’s the short version, and for the purposes of this site it’s most of what matters: the plan is to write about the work — how software gets built, what makes that easier or harder, and the tools and ideas that keep showing up along the way.

What to expect

Roughly two kinds of posts.

Engineering notes. The practical stuff. Things I figured out, things I got wrong, things that turned out to be simpler than the internet made them sound. If I spend an afternoon fighting a tool and come out the other side with a clear picture, that picture goes here so I don’t have to rebuild it next time — and so you don’t have to either.

Opinions about the industry. Software has no shortage of these, and I’m not going to pretend mine are rarer or better than most. What I’ll try to do is show my work: say what I believe, say why, and be specific enough that you can tell me where I’m wrong.

What not to expect

A schedule. I’d rather publish when I have something to say than manufacture something to say because it’s Tuesday.

A newsletter, a comment section, or a pop-up asking you to subscribe. There’s an RSS feed. If you want to reply, LinkedIn works.
